wildlife rescue center

Today after class a few of us took a tour of an animal rescue center. Our guide from Argentina was great and I learned tons about the different animals. We talked a lot about endangered species, invasive species, and native species of animals. This rescue provides the animals that cannot be safely released back into the wild for various reasons a safe place that is as close to their natural habitat as possible.

6. This bird was created by humans and is a cross between photo 2 and 5 if I'm remembering correctly.

8. The part of this turtle that looks like a dead leaf is actually his head. 
9. Stingless bees that make a honey that is used medicinally.

week 4

Today was my last day of class. Four weeks flew by. This week we reviewed subjunctive and then did a review of all verb tenses. We also played word games and talked a lot. It was a great week. It was just Natalie and I in class with Sydnia again so it was very relaxed while still being beneficial. I think it was my favorite week. I really enjoyed spending three weeks with Natalie and loved having Sydnia as a teacher twice. Her style works really well for me. I like calm and informal. I like my summers to be chill. Tomorrow I'm hanging out with my host mom all day and going out to dinner with her extended family. I'll definitely miss people here but obviously I'm ready to get home too.

week 1

First week of classes went so well it was over before I knew it. There were only 4 students so there was plenty of individual attention and speaking practice. We spent the entire week working on por/para and prepositions. We went really in depth and I learned a lot of new vocabulary. We also talked a lot about what words mean in different countries. For example, here in Costa Rica a "torta" is a "patty" (like a hamburger patty but can be anything). We also learned that Costa Rica has a lot of Nicaraguan immigrants. We also talked a lot about world news after reading articles. And my teacher even liked American Football. It was really interesting to learn that it is growing in popularity here. Apparently they play on the soccer field on Sundays. I'll have to try to catch it one Sunday when I don't have a tour. We also talked a lot about movies, books, and music. Volcán Poas

Realized I never posted about Poas! I got to see Poas 20 years ago but definitely wanted to see it again because it was a favorite. It wasn't on the school's tour list,but the school's driver mentioned having done it and a strawberry farm with another student not too long ago so I asked about it and 3 of us went.  We got the most beautiful day and a perfectly clear view of the crater and the lake.  Then we toured a finca de fresas and it was really neat to learn about the agriculture and process.
